EVANSTON—After filing his semi-annual financial disclosure statement, Democrat Daniel Biss announced today that his campaign for State Representative in Illinois's 17th District raised more than $130,000 during the last four months of 2009.  His campaign received over 400 contributions from more than 350 individuals and has over $120,000 on hand.

“As I walk through our community knocking on doors, most people realize there are deep, difficult problems facing Springfield,” Biss said, “They are not looking for someone to provide clichés during a campaign. They are looking for a leader who will bring reforms and creative solutions to our problems.

“I am honored by the strong support my campaign has received from people across our district who believe that I will be able to deliver needed reforms and solutions.  I pledge that I will fight every day to turn this state around.”

As a teacher, university researcher, political organizer, and civically active community member, Biss is committed to bringing fiscal responsibility, sound education policy, and creative solutions for political reform to Springfield.

Biss ran a historic grassroots campaign for the seat in 2008 against an entrenched six-term incumbent that attracted the attention of political observers from across the country. He was lauded for walking virtually every neighborhood in the community, talking with thousands of people across the district, engaging hundreds of new volunteers and activists in the political process, and communicating with many of his constituents online via social networks and blogs.
